Marsha Treadwell, PhD

Professor in Residence
M_PEDS-HEMATOLOGY

I am a Professor In Residence in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology in the UCSF School of Medicine. I am Co-Director of the UCSF Sickle Cell Center of Excellence, an internationally recognized lifespan center. As a health services researcher and clinical psychologist, I have led multi-institutional, national and international, interdisciplinary teams conducting research on how social drivers, psychological and behavioral factors, and organizational structures and processes impact the health and well-being of individuals living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and their families. I am mPI on the Recruitment and Engagement in Care to Impact Practice Enhancement (RECIPE) project funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute that aims to find adults with SCD unaffiliated from SCD specialty care and bring them into care. I am mPI and Regional Director for the Pacific Sickle Cell Regional Collaborative, a 13-state U.S. consortium funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration, that seeks to improve access to knowledgeable care for individuals with SCD of all ages. I am leading the Community Impact Strategic Planning for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals that has the charter to harness, amplify and grow health equity focused efforts that will have transformational impact on childhood community health equity. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and my research and clinical work has focused on improving quality of life, quality of care, patient reported outcomes and transition from pediatric to adult care for individuals living with SCD and their families. I received my doctorate in clinical child psychology from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, and Advanced Training in Clinical Research from UCSF.
