Mission and Goals

The mission of the Center of Excellence for Sickle Cell Care is to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with sickle cell disease and their families across the lifespan.

Our mission is accomplished through culturally responsive, comprehensive medical care, and innovative research across the lifespan. Additionally, psychosocial support and education that advance sickle cell disease awareness and management on the local, national and global levels are imperative. We are committed to empowering people living with sickle cell disease and their families to be strong, active and informed participants in their care.

Our goals include:

  • Addressing health disparities and health inequities that characterize sickle cell disease resources and outcomes
  • Developing and implementing targeted, novel disease-changing therapies that transform lives
  • Training and mentoring the next generation of leaders in sickle cell research, clinical care and community engagement and empowerment
  • Contributing to the advancement of knowledge, including etiology, diagnosis and treatment across the lifespan
  • Providing high-quality care in our community
  • Providing advocacy for people living with sickle cell disease and their families
