Within its 8 research centers, Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) investigators probe all aspects of health and wellness, including asthma, birth defects, cancer, cardiac disease prevention, childhood obesity and diabetes, iron metabolism, HIV/AIDS, sickle cell anemia, and mechanisms of immunity and bacterial proliferation.

Specifically, CHORI's Center for Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia provides for the most comprehensive clinical and research center in the world by housing the only not-for-profit Sibling Donor Cord Blood Program in the world, and offering an internationally recognized Blood and Marrow Transplant Program that provides cures to children with the deadliest presentation of these blood disorders.
